Apple Releases Mac OS X Lion to Developers

Apple released more than just an update to its Macbook Pro lineup this week. The company also released Mac OS X Lion, the eighth version of its OS X operating system, to developers this week. The OS is available through the Mac App Store and will be released to the public this summer.

Infected Android app runs up big texting bills

Computerworld - A rogue Android app that's been tweaked by hackers can hijack a smartphone and run up big texting bills before the owner knows it, Symantec said today.
The newest in a line of compromised Android apps, said Vikram Thakur, a principle security response manager at Symantec, is Steamy Window, a free program that Chinese hackers have modified, then re-released into the wild.

Survey: Consumers more likely to buy Android over iPhone

From phandriod.com: Consumers are more likely to buy Android devices over iPhone. They found that 34% of those surveyed are looking to buy a Android device this year, while 21% were looking to buy an iPhone. 12% were said to be looking for a new Blackberry.  We don’t know what the sample size was. But considering all of the trends from other high-profile research firms – such as IDC and Gartner – mirror this particular survey, we can’t say we’ll doubt its accuracy.

Amazon takes on Netflix with movie streaming service for Prime

As expected, Amazon has announced its new and improved Amazon Prime service that now offers more than 5,000 streaming TV shows and movies to customers. Those who already pay the $79 per year for Prime won't have to pay any extra to get access to the streams. Video will be available on Macs and PCs in the US, as well as a number of set-top boxes.  In an online letter announcing the new Amazon Prime benefit, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos listed such movies as Amadeus, Chariots of Fire and March of the Penguins alongside such TV shows as Doctor Who, The Dick Van Dyke Show and Fawlty Towers. He also touted a one-month free trial.

Twitter For Blackberry update adds new features

Today RIM announced that it has released an update to Twitter for BlackBerry beta application. Version 1.1 includes @mention push notifications, threaded direct messages, #topic auto-complete, and deeper integration with RIM's social feeds feature.   The update should be available for free in BlackBerry App World now.

The Corner HBO Miniseries from Creator of the Wire

Before David Simon made the Wire, he helped create a miniseries for HBO that explored a similar theme: life in inner city Baltimore.  The Corner is a six episode miniseries available on DVD.  If your a fan of the HBO series called "The Wire," you will love this one too. The Corner predates The Wire and many of the same actors were used in both series. If you like hard core realism and lots of drama, The Corner will meet your expectations fully.

Google pulls flash game player from Android Market

A few weeks ago an app that lets you download and play Flash games on Android phones became available and it was called Flash Game Player .  It seemed to be a decent if not great app but Google has removed the app from the Android Market, and some users are reporting that it’s also being remotely wiped from the phones in cases where it was downloaded from the market.  The reason why it was removed is not known at this time.
